The Strange “This Is Us” Switch Up.
The “This Is Us” lovers are starting to feel like Miguel is starting to grow on them, something that they thought they would never feel. This is however the case as in (Season 2, Episode 11) where the Pearson clan is sitting in a circle, looking all uncomfortable as an addiction specialist guides kelvin towards opening up a group dialogue. On a normal occasion, this would be a family gathering at one of the Pearson’s lavishing homes.
What leads to this therapy is a drunk Kelvin driving at a high speed with Tess at the back seat. It was possible for the writers to make that an accident with Tess gone but they somehow knew that we would not take it. Beth and Randal had just had to watch their foster daughter Deja re-unite with her biological mom and loosing Tess was not an option here.
This is probably why a cop pulled him up and when we see him again, he had been at the rehab for three months trying to fix the damage he had done to himself and the people that loved him.
This is what leads us to this Pearson’s family thing that Miguel, Beth and Toby are not invited. They therefore had to look for a place to spend the afternoon, a bar, that Toby thinks is ironic. It is during this session that we learn that Kevin feels ousted by the family. Given the fact that everyone in dealing with one thing or the other, he is left to feel as a third wheel that he says lead s to him seek for the attention and admiration room the media that he never got as a youth.
So really the law of attraction is at play here as Kevin has been looking for what he never got from the family, from the mass but that doesn’t change things. Miguel, who is all sweet top the Pearson’s, and a newbie to the group gets us focusing on the fact that he is married to his best friend’s wife. Not just any best friend, Jack Pearson’s who is too perfect for anyone to stand up to or as they like to refer to it, “no-fly zone”. Just like Kevin, Miguel knows his place which he has made peace with and knows that to change it would means changing everything including the very thing that brings the Pearson together. The only difference is that unless Kevin makes amends and heals , he will keep unraveling it but Miguel on the other hand may be what the family needs to get back together.
